LabVIEW Real-Time 1

The LabVIEW Real-Time 1 course delivers hands-on training for prototyping deterministic measurement and control systems. At the end of the course, you will be able to design, develop, and prototype a real-time application that handles communication between the RT target and a host computer using NI recommended methods and LabVIEW Real-Time.

OVERVIEW

Audience
  • LabVIEW Real-Time Module users preparing to develop applications using real-time targets
  • Users developing deterministic closed-loop control systems or increasing reliability of measurement systems
  • Users developing applications for deployment in industrial environments or remote locations
  • Users and technical managers evaluating LabVIEW Real-Time or NI Developer Suite in purchasing decisions
Task-based Objectives After completing this course, you will be able to:
  • Determine if a real-time solution is appropriate for a given problem
  • Choose and configure the RT target hardware for a given real-time application
  • Implement a deterministic application
  • Understand how to reduce the jitter in a real-time application
  • Communicate between a host computer and RT target using network communication

Prerequisites

System Requirements

NI Online Training courses are best utilized on systems meeting minimum requirements for best performance. Use the following guidelines:

Browser
  • Google Chrome (last two major versions)
  • Mozilla Firefox (latest two major versions) – Extended Support Release (ESR) versions not supported
  • Safari (current version) – Macintosh Only
  • Microsoft Edge (current patch level) – Windows Only

Operating System
  • Windows 7/8/10 or later
  • MAC OS X 10.10 or later

NI Hardware and Software Used or Referenced

Software
  • LabVIEW Full Development System version 2012 or later
  • LabVIEW Real-Time Module version 2012 or later
  • NI RIO 12.0 or later
  • NI MAX

Hardware - You do not need the hardware to take the course as the hardware related demos and solutions are all recorded.

Use simulated hardware where applicable or the list below as reference if you want to program and test the hardware related exercises:

  • Simulated hardware

or

  • Temperature Chamber including a 12 volt fan, lamp, and a J-type thermocouple
  • cRIO-9074 integrated chassis and controller
  • NI 9211 thermocouple module
  • NI 9474 digital output module
