Introducing Your Automated Measurements Board

Students are introduced to the NI Automated Measurements Board, the NI ELVIS III system, and the software tools they will use, as well as learning more about the goals and structure of this course. Students get hands-on experience through a couple simple activities, wiring connections, launching software and instruments, and taking measurements with the on-board instrumentation.

Goal and Organization of Course

The course is designed for you to experiment with all the fundamentals involved in the signal chain process. This includes conducting experiments that will help you explore properties and characteristics of:

  • Voltage
  • Current
  • Resistance
  • Amplifiers
  • Filters
  • ADC’s (Analog to Digital Converters)
  • Sensors (Temperature, Hall Effect, Light, Force and Strain)
  • Signal Acquisition and cleaning
  • Signal Chain
  • IoT Internet of Things
 

REQUIRED SKILLS

 
  • Basic proficiency using Multisim Live and LabVIEW
  • Basic proficiency using ELVIS III Instruments
  • Basic knowledge of components and their behaviors
